Crystal (結晶, Kesshō) is the fifth episode of the Welcome to the Slave Harem in the Labyrinth of the Other World anime series.

Plot[]

Kaga asks Roxanne how to add skills to his equipment and is told he must locate a rare monster skill crystal and have a blacksmith bond it to the equipment. Unfortunately, only dwarves have the blacksmith ability and they are often untrustworthy. Kaga decides to find a trustworthy dwarf and make them a party member. Inside the labyrinth, Kaga learns that Magic Crystals can be filled with monster magic and sold for incredible sums but can take months to accomplish. Purchasing two empty crystals, Kaga learns they can hold magic from 1 million monsters, but most people sell them after 100,000. He also learns labyrinths are alive and grow upwards, so the first floor is actually the lowest, while the strongest monsters are on the top floors. Kaga decides he needs spells that attack multiple targets. As they also require healing spells, both Kaga and Roxanne gain the title of Monk by defeating a monster with their bare hands. At night, they repeat their ritual of bathing each other before making love. The next day, they locate the room of the first floor Boss Monster and head inside to defeat it.

Trivia[]

The episode is the adaptation of chapter 7 and chapter 8 part 1. However there are a few differences:

  • The episode starts with Kaga and Roxanne being almost clothed, while in the manga Roxanne helps Kaga take on his shirt, resulting in a slightly “ecchi” accident.
  • In the anime when equipping themselves for the labyrinth, Roxanne and Kaga don't have head protection, while in the manga they both have leather hats on.
  • Roxanne explaining the mechanics of the labyrinth aren't present in the anime, while in the manga we figure out that the guy at the entrance can take people to any floor they’ve previously been on.
  • Roxanne explaining that her former party members didn’t listen to her was moved to after they’d been in the labyrinth, while it happened within the labyrinth in the manga.
  • In the anime Roxanne and Kaga’s conversation about taxes aren't present, while in the manga we figure out that Roxanne was sold into slavery because her family was unable to pay their taxes.
  • In the anime the conversation about how the labyrinths work have been moved from being in the Vale Pavilion to after they get the crystals and are back in the labyrinth.
  • In the anime Roxanne and Kaga’s conversations, as well as Kaga monologuing had been watered down once again, while in the manga we get to hear much more about how Kaga plans to deal with different issues. Those issues/challenges include how to level up, how to efficiently get money and beat enemies safely.
  • Two special episodes, which are scenes filled with intimacy, are extra scenes which are linked to actual moments in the anime, the first of them is an extension of the cleaning scene near the end of this 5th episode, where we see them make out.
    • This OVA aired November 25, 2022. Its title is “After Washing Your Body...” (体を洗ったあとは..., Karada o Aratta Ato wa...) and it was Directed by Naoyuki Tatsuwa, Written by Kurasumi Sunayama and the Storyboarded was made by Naruse Takahashi.
